| (501) The Lover's Knot
This pattern I found first carved in stone at Meigle in Perthshire Scotland , also found in Wales and Ireland on High crosses . It is created from one continuous line, which represents eternity, fidelity, and unity to a thought, to a person or idea. The inner pattern consists of four triquetras, each triquetra or triad represents one of the four seasons , or protecting in the four quadrants North , South, East or West . A triquetra representing three forces of nature: earth, air and water. Often thought of as the "Triple Goddess " the symbol for Mother Earth . The symbol that was later used by the Christians to symbolize the holy Trinity which made it easier to integrate Christian and pagan beliefs. The circle which encompasses the pattern symbolizes the sun, also worshiped by the druids as a symbol of completeness. (Item No. 501) |
